The "pseudo-war" in Lebanon has been raging on for almost the past week, what surprises me the most in this isn't the "war" by itself (what would you expect from politicians that don't know how to do anything else? (1)) but the reaction of the people. I don't mean the general broad meaning of people but the people around me, people I talk to.
I had always hoped that if, no when, the "war"would come again (see (1)), people would realize that there is no other way with our politicians, that (1) was so obvious. I mean they've been trying for the past 30 years and, it's not their fault, they just don't know another way of doing this. What a disappointment that was!
Instead of turning against them, they are going for whatever explanation their omnipresent-guru of theirs say, or even worst, whatever the even bigger media guru says. Attacking each other relentlessly trying to prove the other one wrong.
Even their vocabulary adapts to this phenomena, it's like someone pressed pause in 1991 and then pressed play again a few days ago: "opposition making progress in region x", "west beirut under the control of y", "OUR area is protected by z, not to worry".
And how quick they were to integrate new words, oh yes, we're always updating our war lexicon, we now have "terrorism" in our language, and "terrorists are invading beirut" as if they don't live there.
Even better yet, the force facing one camp is a militia, while the camp has "forces". So its the opposition forces attack/defend the government militia, and the government forces attack/defend the opposition militia/terrorists. Akhmed would be pleased to SILENCE them all! (inside joke).
And thanks to the help of misinformation and political "movie making" everyone is being alienated into a blood thirsty community of to chop whoever head get on its way.
I don't know if there is much hope left of repairing the damages made or of healing the very same wound we haven't been treating for the past 17 years and that flared back up.
In the mean time, just keep wagging the dog, we're definitely falling for it.
